Composition
1 g ointment contains 20 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride.

Properties and mechanism of action
The agent of the Dermodrin ointment is the well-known antihistamine diphenhydramine, an H1-blocker.
This substance is notable for its anti-allergic, regionally anaesthetising, bacteriostatic and antipruiginous activity.
The ointment base is a cooling oil-in-water emulsion which is water-soluble and entirely non-irritating.
Dermodrin ointment gradually checks allergic skin reactions and stops itching. The effect occurs approx. 5 - 20 minutes after application and lasts for between 2 and 6 hours.

Indications
Allergies, itching eczemas, urticaria, dermatites of allergic and non-allergic genesis, pruritus vulvae, scroti, ani, senilis, priritus in inner diseases (such as diabetes mellitus, lymphogranuloma), insect stings and vermin bites, first-degree and second-degree burns, follow-up treatment of third-degree burns, sunburn, frost-bite, itching edges of a (healing) wound, excoriations.

Mode of application
Apply to the skin.

Dosage
A thin layer of Dermodrin ointment is applied and rubbed well into the skin several times per day. The duration of treatment depends on the severity, localisation and extent of the disease.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine
Pregnancy and lactation
When used correctly neither an embryotoxic effect nor a passage into the mother's milk is to be expected.
