When do you use Cynarix FORTE and how does Cynarix FORTE work?

Cynarix FORTE is a traditional, herbal medicinal product containing an extract from artichoke leaves.

Cynarix FORTE is used for the relief of dyspeptic complaints, such as sensations of pressure and fullness, nausea, eructation and flatulence.

Furthermore, Cynarix supports the digestion of fat after rich and heavy meals.
Cynarix FORTE is indicated for adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over.

How do you take Cynarix FORTE?

Cynarix FORTE coated tablets are taken at meals with sufficient liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water) twice daily.

1. What Cynarix forte - coated tablets are and what they are used for

Cynarix forte is a traditional herbal medicine containing an extract from artichoke leaves.

Cynarix forte is used:

  • for the relief of digestive problems, such as sensations of pressure and fullness, nausea, belching and flatulence
  • to support a low-fat diet; supports the digestion of fat after rich and heavy meals.

The use of this traditional herbal medicine in the stated indications is exclusively based on long-standing use.

You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.

2. What you need to know before you take Cynarix forte - coated tablets

Do not take Cynarix forte - coated tablets

  • if you are allergic to artichoke leaves, other plants of the Asteraceae (daisy) family (e.g. arnica, chrysanthemums) or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
  • if you have a biliary tract disorder (e.g. bile duct obstruction, bile duct inflammation, gallstones),
  • if you have liver inflammation (hepatitis).

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Cynarix forte.

Children

Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, as no sufficient data are available.

Other medicines and Cynarix forte - coated tablets

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines.

To date, there are no known interactions with other medicines.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. As no sufficient data are available, taking this medicine during pregnancy and breast-feeding cannot be recommended.

Driving and using machines

Cynarix forte - coated tablets have no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Cynarix forte - coated tablets contain sugar (sucrose). For this reason, if you have been told that you have an intolerance to some sugars, please consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

3. How to take Cynarix forte - coated tablets

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose is
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older: 1 coated tablet twice daily.

Use in children

Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age, as no sufficient data are available.

Take Cynarix forte - coated tablets unchewed at meals with sufficient liquid (e.g. 1 glass of water). If symptoms persist or get worse after 2 weeks of tablet-taking, a doctor should be consulted.

If you take more Cynarix forte - coated tablets than you should

No cases of overdose have been reported.

If you forget to take Cynarix forte - coated tablets

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following frequency data are used for the evaluation of undesirable effects:

  • Very common (≥1/10)
  • Common (≥1/100, <1/10)
  • Uncommon (≥1/1,000, <1/100)
  • Rare (≥1/10,000, <1/1,000)
  • Very rare (<1/10,000)
  • Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data).

The following undesirable effects may occur:

Gastrointestinal and Immune system disorders

Not known: Mild diarrhoea with abdominal cramps may occur, as well as epigastric complaints such as nausea and pyrosis and allergic reactions.

Reporting of suspected adverse reactions

Reporting suspected adverse reactions after authorisation of the midinical product is important. It allows continued monitoring of the benefit/risk balance of the medicinal product. Healthcare professionals are asked to report any suspected adverse reaction via:

5. How to store Cynarix forte - coated tablets

Do not store above 30°C.

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the expiry date, which is stated on the carton after {use by:} and blister {EXP}. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the pack and other information

What Cynarix forte - coated tablets contain

The active substance is: artichoke leaf extract.

1 coated tablet contains 600 mg artichoke leaf extract (as dry extract) from Cynara scolymus L., folium, DER = 4-6:1, extracting agent: water.

The other ingredients are: sucrose, silica, maltodextrin, talc, hydroxypropyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, gum arabic, titanium dioxide (E171), Eudragit E, methyl cellulose, calcium carbonate, povidone K30, glycerol 85%, montanglycol wax.
